Criteria for Qualified Presenters:
Is committed to a daily practice of Centering Prayer.
Is committed to a regular practice of Lectio Divina.
Is a commissioned presenter of Centering Prayer
Attended a Lectio Divina Workshop and presenter’s formation
at the end of the workshop.
Attends foundational workshops and retreats offered by
Contemplative Outreach.
Accepts the Contemplative Outreach Vision Statement and
Theological Principles.
Where applicable, is recommended by the local coordinator.
Becomes familiar with bibliography on Lectio Divina by reading
some of the books and viewing some of the videos.
During this time of training the presenter needs to have a
mentor (their coordinator or one of resource persons below).
Process for Commissioning Presenters of Lectio Divina
After fulfilling the above criteria a person may become a
commissioned presenter of Lectio Divina by completing the following process:
Candidate attends Lectio Divina Formation Workshop and
Training following the recommendation of the chapter coordinator (if
applicable).
Formation staff sends list of participants who complete the
Lectio Divina training with recommendation for Presenter-In-Training status to
the International Resource Center. Participants are coded on IRC database as
having attended the workshop with the codes LDT04 (Lectio Divina Training
2006)
IRC prepares and mails letters indicating
Presenter-in-training status. Candidates must return their letters with their
signature agreeing to the terms and conditions of the commissioning. It is the
responsibility of the Presenter-in-Training to return their letter - follow
ups are difficult to attend to. Once the letter is returned, the person is
coded on the IRC database as "LDPT" Lectio Divina
Presenter-in-Training .
Candidates inform their coordinator that they have received
their letter indicating that they are a Presenter-in-Training for Lectio
Divina Introductory Workshop. Candidates also ask their coordinator or a
resource person to mentor them as they give workshops. Ideally the mentoring
is done by observing the presenter-in-training give at least one workshop on
Lectio Divina. If this is not possible then the presenter needs to send the
participant's' evaluations to her/his mentor as well as a reflection paper on
their experience of giving the workshop. The mentor responds by critiquing the
evaluations and reflection paper of the presenter-in-training.
When the Presenter-in-Training feels comfortable after
presenting a number of workshops they can send a letter to Gail Fitzpatrick-Hopler
requesting full Commissioning as a Presenter of Lectio Divina Introductory
Workshops. A letter of recommendation from a Coordinator or Mentor must
accompany this request.
An appointment letter is then sent for full commissioning as
a Presenter of Lectio Divina Introductory Workshops which must be signed and
returned to the IRC
Once the letter is signed and returned to the IRC the person
is coded on the database "LDCP" (Lectio Divina Commissioned
Presenter). Individual files are kept at the IRC for each person who has been
commissioned.
